What is TrustSg?
TrustSg is a nation-wide trust mark initiative
by the National Trust Council to boost the electronic commerce (EC) environment in Singapore. The initiative aims to help e-businesses build confidence in e-commerce
transactions especially in the area of privacy and security. TrustSg is the only national trustmark programme in Singapore that accredits both business-to-consumer online merchants and business-to-business e-businesses.
TrustSg provides a national endorsement by the government for local e-businesses and establishes a national branding for Singapore with the program's trustmark. The accreditation programme will also educate the public on the benefits of transacting online and the meaning of trustmarks.
TrustSg is a Government administered e-commerce trustmark accreditation programme. Customers are made aware of accredited companies' business reliability. Customers will not be hesitant to provide their personal information online as all TrustSg accredited companies comply with the Model Data Protection Code principles. Customers are ensured of fair business, advertising and marketing practices when transacting with TrustSg accredited companies. TrustSg accredited companies are also required to have an
effective enforcement/redress mechanism, giving customers the confidence to transact online. Most significantly accredited companies are able to distinguish themselves from other B2B companies doing business online.
To acquire the TrustSg seal, e-businesses are required to comply with a stringent code of practice for online business practice set by the NTC. The code of practice for both B2B and B2C e-businesses covers the area of disclosure, privacy, fulfillment and best business practices. B2C e-businesses will also be required to comply with a section for
protection of minors and the elderly.
What is BusinessTrust?
 |
BusinessTrust is an accreditation program that facilitates B2B transactions and awarded to emarketplaces and their constituent transacting parties. The trustmark is targeted at buyers and sellers trading in B2B marketplaces where large savings are often possible by eliminating intermediaries.
BusinessTrust is part of CommerceNet’s Global Reliability Programme that aims to promote trust and confidence in the (B2B) e-commerce spectrum, especially in the digital environment where companies frequently trade with new and unknown parties, often across national borders. It is an agreed framework currently adopted in CommerceNet Asia including Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan.
The purpose of BusinessTrust is to establish a certain level of trust and transparency to overcome the anonymity and
uncertainty inherent in e-commerce involving both buyers and sellers. With the emergence
of e-marketplaces creating the platform for virtual communities of buyers and sellers to
interact with one another, the significance of a mutual compatible business practices of both
buyers and sellers are essential for the smooth functioning of the e-marketplaces.
What is ConsumerTrust?
ConsumerTrust is a Global Reliability Programme that aims to encourage best business practices by merchants and to assist consumers in identifying merchants that they can trust. When consumers visit a store or website bearing the ConsumerTrust trustmark, they will know that this merchant has been audited and meets the standards stipulated in the ConsumerTrust Code of Practice.
By having a global presence, ConsumerTrust also ensures comparable level of protection for
consumers across national boundaries. Thus, merchants who adhere to the ConsumerTrust Code
of Practice would gain international recognition as trusted and reliable merchants by consumers
worldwide.
